The 8088 is a cost reduced version of the Intel 8086. While still having the same execution unit as the 8086 the data bus was cut to 8 bit. This yielded also reduced performance compared to the 8086. The 8088 was also chosen by IBM to be used in the IBM XT PC. The Siemens 8088 was found in the Commodore PC-I.
