MPEG2 accelerator card for DVD playback, plays also video files, incl. Creative Encore DVD Player (Ravisent Engine).
A loop through VGA cable has to be used and it shows the video by color keying in a rectangular area.
The average quality is rather poor and it works well only with NTSC DVDs (640x480).
The decoding is limited to a certain number of scanlines (est. 511) so it cuts off the lower part of DVDs in PAL resolution (704x576), incuding subtitles.

System Requirements and Specs
Creative Dxr2 DVD playback comparison (with brief footage from The Fifth Element DVD):
My notes:
System used:
P2 233 MHz on i440LX chipset.
Matrox G200, SB16
graphics mode 1024x768
The Dxr2 uses a VGA Loop Through cable and uses analog chroma keying.
This also reduces the normal vga signal quality
I didn't recorded audio, but you get german subtitles instead.
The average dynamic of the playback is rather bad.
The decoder chip has problems with PAL resolution that have more vertical scanlines.
It is not as corrupted as the Malibu daughterboard but the lower part will be cut off, including subtitles.
The card uses I/O and an IRQ.
